Deepen your level of connection with the ocean and with yourself. Understand how to read the waves better, position yourself better and perform with awareness.
October and April are considered shoulder seasons in Indonesia, offering excellent surfing conditions with fewer crowds. October falls within the dry season, providing consistent swells, while April marks the start of the swell season, bringing occasional bigger swells but mostly delivering fun and manageable waves for all.
During those 'early' and 'late' seasons, waves tend to be softer and range from small to mid-size—ideal for intermediate surfers looking to build confidence. With a mix of right and left-hand reef breaks featuring medium-fast and moderately steep waves, it’s a perfect time to enjoy the surf in a laid-back and friendly atmosphere!
All boards from minimals to shortboards will be appropriate.
This surfing program is designed for:

Intermediate
You are comfortable catching waves. You are testing your limits by trying new surf spots and boards. You are starting to get comfortable duck-diving but haven't fully mastered it. You can angle your surfboard on takeoff and catch waves sideways, you can trim down the wave but still struggle to make a proper turn.
The listed surf level is the suggested experience level for this retreat.
If you are not sure if this retreat is the right one for you, please fill out the form below with a note, or simply contact us.
Who is this for?
You are hooked with surfing but still struggling to position yourself in the line up, read the ocean well, you aren’t sure the stance on your surfboard is right, you miss techniques to perform basic turns. Still, you know how to catch waves, you know the feeling of trimming on the wave – you are just missing a solid foundation to bring it to the next level. You may also be transitioning from a longer surfboard to a short board and have yet to figure it out! You may have started to surf recently, spent so many hours in the water and need someone to show you the way.
In this retreat, you will increase your confidence and your awareness when surfing. You will learn the right techniques to surf better. You will catch plenty of waves as there are less crowds than most places!
What to expect:
Immerse yourself in the pristine beauty and waves of Grajagan national park, where the famous G Land left hander point break has attracted crowds since the 1970’s.
While G Land is a wave for experienced surfers, it may not be the wave of choice for this retreat. However, what is less know is that some incredibly fun waves can be found in the national park. We will mostly surf two waves: a right hander and a left hander that are both user friendly offering space for basic turns, trimming, practicing duck diving and so on.
This retreat will be under the guidance of Lena, who also runs our longboard retreats and has a mindful approach bringing the spirit of tai chi into surfing and exploring a combination of drills exercises that have helped many unlock their surfing!
What are the waves like?
While we don’t have our own videos since this will be our first retreat there, here’s to give you and idea of the type of waves to expect.
